Signal Missing. Permanent Fault
Checking Power Cable
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect fuel pump (FP) relay (2/23) from relay base.
- Ignition ON.
- Connect a voltmeter between relay base terminal 2 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read battery voltage.
If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Checking The Signal Cable section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Check cable between fuel pump relay terminal 2 and ignition switch terminal 15 for an open-circuit.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
Checking The Signal Cable
- Fuel pump relay removed.
- Ignition ON.
- Connect a voltmeter between relay base terminal 4 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read 5 - 6 Volts.
If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Checking Fuel Pump Relay section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Checking Engine Control Module Connector section below.
Checking Engine Control Module Connector
- Ignition OFF.
- Fuel pump relay removed.
- Check engine control module (ECM) connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Ignition ON.
- Connect a voltmeter between relay base terminal 4 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read 5 - 6 Volts.
If reading is OK:
^ The cause of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been loose connections in the engine control module connector.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Check cable between fuel pump relay terminal 4 and engine control module # B19 for an open-circuit.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
Checking Fuel Pump Relay
- Ignition OFF.
- Reinstall fuel pump relay.
- Ignition ON.
- Activate fuel pump.
- A clicking sound should be heard from the fuel pump relay when it is activated.
If reading is OK:
^ The cause of the diagnostic trouble code has been loose connections in the fuel pump relay connector.
^ Check connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Try a new fuel pump relay.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
Verification
After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition OFF.
- Fuel pump relay and engine control module connected.
- Ignition ON.
- Activate fuel pump.
- A clicking sound should be heard from the fuel pump relay when it is activated.
If reading is OK:
^ Fault corrected.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Fault-tracing Information section below.
Fault-tracing Information
The verification result shows that the fault persists.
- Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes:
^ Fault not corrected.
No:
^ Proceed to: Checking Power Cable section above.
