Signal Missing. Permanent Fault
Checking Power Cable
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect injector.
- Ignition ON.
- Connect a voltmeter between injector connector terminal 1 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read battery voltage.
If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Checking Signal Cable section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Check cable between injector terminal 1 and main relay (2/32) terminal 3 for an open-circuit.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
Checking Signal Cable
- Ignition ON.
- Injector disconnected.
- Connect a voltmeter between injector connector terminal 2 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read approx. 6 Volts.
If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Checking Injector section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Checking ECM Connector section below.
Checking Injector
- Ignition OFF.
- Injector disconnected.
- Connect an ohmmeter between injector connector terminals 1 and 2.
- The ohmmeter should read approx. 16 ohms at +20°C (+68°F).
If reading is OK:
^ The cause of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been loose connections in the injector and/or engine control module (ECM) connectors.
^ Check the connectors for loose connections, contact resistance and oxidation.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Try a new injector.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
Checking ECM Connector
- Ignition OFF.
- Injector disconnected.
- Check engine control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Engine control module connected.
- Ignition ON.
- Connect a voltmeter between injector connector terminal 2 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read approx. 6 Volts.
If reading is OK:
^ The cause of the diagnostic trouble code has been loose connections in the engine control module connector.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Check cable between injector connector terminal 2 and engine control module # A10 (EFI-115), # A24 (EFI-125), # A23 (EFI-135), # A43 (EFI-145),# A38 (EFI-155), # A9 (EFI-165) for an open-circuit.

Verification
After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition ON.
- Activate relevant injector according to Breakout Box charts.
- A clicking sound should be heard from the injector when it is activated.
- Is the injector working?
Yes:
^ Fault corrected.
No:
^ Proceed to: Fault-tracing Information section below.

The verification result shows that the fault persists.

Yes:
^ Fault not corrected.
No:
