Service campaign no.88 Quarter glass mounting

Background:

On early production cars the quarter window was glued to the hinges in the front of the glass. A production modification has been performed where the quarter glass window now is attached to the hinges with two bolts.

This service campaign is about how to perform the modification to the new style quarter glass window.

PREPARATIONS





Remove upper seat belt bolt.

Carefully remove the panel on the B post by lifting upwards.

REPLACEMENT QUARTER GLASS





Remove the bolt holding the rear-opening hinge to the glass.

Remove the cover over the mounting for the front attachment nuts.

Remove front attachment nuts for the glass.

CAUTION:
A piece of butyl tape MUST be be placed in the socket when removing and installing the two nuts for the quarter glass.

Failing to secure the nuts in the socket may result in improper function of the seat belt if a nut falls into the B - post, or cause rattle in the side of the car.

Remove the old style window. (Remove spacers it fitted to the old window.)

Reinstall the removed spacers on the new style glass. (If applicable)

Apply thread sealant on the bolts for the front mounting in the B post, P/N 11611053.

Install the new window.

Install the retaining nuts for the front attachment finger tight.

Apply thread sealant, P/N 1161053, on the bolt for the rear opening hinge. Install the bolt to the rear hinge finger tight.

ALIGNING QUARTER WINDOW

Check the window alignment as illustrated.





Dimension:

Door glass rear edge should be flush with quarter glass front edge, or maximum 2 mm outside the quarter glass.

Dimension A: The gap between the door glass and the quarter glass must be 5-9 mm ( 3/16"- 5/16") with a maximum difference of 1.5 mm (1/16") between upper and lower measuring.

Dimension B: 2 mm (0.080")

Measurement C: 1 mm (0.040")

Tighten the two front nuts to 10 Nm.

Torque the retaining bolt for the rear-opening hinge to 3 Nm.

LEAK TEST THE WINDOW





Appropriate water pressure is achieved with water jet 1.5 meters (5 feet) long 1.0 meter (3 feet) above ground level aimed towards the glass seal area.

Aim the nozzle approx. 5 seconds at each point around the sealing area for the quarter glass.

Continue the leak test for 3 minutes on each side. If necessary. adjust the window and repeat the test until it does not leak.

Reinstall removed components. The seat belt mounting bolt must be torqued to 48 Nm.
