New Car Features 1997 960
This Service Bulletin contains brief description of the most important new car features for the 960 1997 model year.
The Service Bulletin is aimed at both workshop and replacement parts personnel.
For further information about new car features and for descriptions of working methods and fault-tracing, see the service literatures for the system in question.
1997 model year vehicles are given the designation V and the chassis numbers starting from:
Model Chassis number
960 4-door 104505
960 5-door 38900
Engine
^ The Exhaust system on the 960 is being altered to reduce exterior noise. These modifications also contribute to reduced noise levels in the passenger compartment.
^ All have a new, improved type of engine cooling fan (FC) which is more effective, produces less noise and uses less power.
^ All engines are being fitted with better interference-suppressing ignition coils to reduce radio interference. Interference-suppression has been achieved by adding a 2.4 k OHMS resistor in the secondary winding
Electrical functions and instrumentation
Air conditioning (A/C) switch
^ For cars with ECC, the previous "A/C ON/OFF" switch is being replaced with a switch bearing a snowflake symbol and with reversed logic. The switch on the air conditioning, the A/C switch has to be pressed in.
^ The diagnostic function is also reversed. That is, when a stored DTC is requested, the A/C switch will illuminate continuously and you must count the number of "OFF" intervals.
Electric switches
^ An electric switch for controlling the power antenna is being introduced into sedan models. This makes it possible to play a CD, for example, when in the car wash.
^ Cars for the USA/Canada, overseas and RHD cars are now being equipped with separate switches for the front and rear fog lights.
Body and Interior
^ "Freewheeling" lock cylinders are being introduced. This means that when an incorrect key or toll is inserted into the lock cylinder and too high a torque is applied, the lock cylinder rotates without opening the doors/lids. This reduces the risk of theft/break-ins.
^ A new option will be available for the dashboard and inlays in the door panels, called "blond Scandinavian wood" or "patina birch". This new type of wood is considerably lighter than the current walnut root.
Paints
New paints being introduced are: Old paints being withdrawn are:
^ mystic silver metallic (426) ^ green metallic (412)
^ aqua blue metallic (431) ^ amethyst (420)
