Shift Interlock Solenoid: Service and Repair

1. Removal
- Remove:
Battery negative lead.
Center console as per steps 3 and 4 of Shift Cable A/T replacement. Service and Repair
- On cars with key lock:
Move gear selector lever to position P.
Turn ignition key to position I or 11.
- Right-hand drive models only:
Disconnect connector and lamp holder from light molding.





2. Disconnect key lock cable from locking plate and adjusting point in gear lever assembly.
- Open solenoid connector and unclip from selector housing.





3. Move gear shift lever to position L.
- Remove solenoid and microswitch.
Release solenoid clip by pressing locking tabs.
Microswitch clip by pressing locking tabs together.
- Remove retaining clip from microswitch.
4. Installation
- Move gear shift lever to position L.
- Install:
New solenoid, secure with clip.
Retaining clip on the new microswitch
Microswitch.
- Install and reconnect solenoid connector.





5 Only cars with key lock:
- Reconnect key lock cable.
- Move gear shift lever to position P and turn ignition key to position I or 11.
- Connect cable to locking plate and adjustment point in gear selector housing.
- On right-hand drive models:
Install lamp holder in light molding.
6. Reinstall center console as per step 8 of Shift Cable A/T replacement. Service and Repair
- Reconnect battery ground lead.
