Signal Missing. Permanent Fault

Checking Power Cable
- Ignition off.
- Remove left fender liner.
- Disconnect connector from EVAP canister shut-off valve.
- Ignition on.
- Connect a voltmeter between EVAP canister shut-off valve connector terminal 1 and ground.
- The voltmeter should read battery voltage.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to test step below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Check power cable between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminal 1 and main relay (2/32) for an open-circuit.
^ Then proceed to Verification section below.

Checking EVAP Canister Shut-off Valve
- Ignition off.
- Connect an ohmmeter between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminals 1 and 2.
- The ohmmeter should read 14 - 20 ohms.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to test step below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Try a new EVAP canister shut-off valve.
^ Then proceed to Verification section below.

Checking Signal Cable
- Ignition off.
- Connect the test box and check ground terminals.
- Connect an ohmmeter between terminal # 19 (B19) on the test box and EVAP canister shut-off valve connector terminal 2.
- The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms.

If reading is OK:
^ The cause of fault has been poor contact in the engine control module (ECM) and/or the EVAP canister shut-off valve connectors. Check connectors for contact resistance, oxidation and remedy.
^ Then proceed to Verification section below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Check cable between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminal 2 and engine control module # B19 for an open-circuit.
^ Then proceed to Verification section below.

Verification
- After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows.
- Ignition off.
- EVAP canister shut-off valve and engine control module connected.
- Ignition on.
- Activate EVAP canister shut-off valve.
- A "clicking sound" is heard from the EVAP canister shut-off valve when it is activated.
- Is the EVAP canister shut-off valve working?

If reading is OK:
^ Fault corrected

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to test step below.

Fault-tracing Information
The verification result shows that the fault persists.

- Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes:
^ Fault not corrected

No:
^ Return to Checking Power Cable section above.
