Toothed Ring

FRONT SENSOR WHEEL, REPLACEMENT (SEPARATE HUB AND DISC)
Special tools: 951 2050, 9995082, 5225, 5294, 5340, 5350, 5351, 5408





AM1. Jack up and support rear of car. Remove wheel
Place support stands under jacking points.
Mark wheel position if locating stud is not fitted.
AM2. Remove brake caliper
Remove both mounting bolts and lift off caliper. Tie up caliper to prevent damage to hose.





AM3. Remove:
^ wheel locating stud
^ brake disc. Mark position of disc with respect to hub
^ dust cap. Loosen by tapping all around with sharp chisel

Note: Dust cap and nut must not be reused.





AM4. Remove hub nut
Use long bar and 36 mm socket.





AM5. Remove hub from spindle
Hold locating sleeve 999 5408 against end of spindle and pull off hub carefully.
Press against inner bearing race as soon as clearance is available. Press against hub until locating sleeve bottoms, to prevent bearing races from falling out.





AM6. Press off sensor wheel
Use drift 999 5351, spacer 999 5350 and counterhold 999 5340.





AM7. Press new sensor wheel onto hub
Use drift 9995351 and counterhold 9995082.

Installation





AM8. Clean spindle thoroughly





AM9. Install hub
Ensure that spindle is clean.

Note: Do not pack hub with grease. Component is already lubricated with correct quantity of special grease.

Use sleeve 9995294 to press in bearing inner race.

Note: Locating sleeve used to remove hub will now be pressed out by spindle.





AM10. Fit and tighten new nut
Tighten nut until axial clearance is taken up exactly. Continue to tighten to 100 Nm (74 ft. lb.). Finally, angle-tighten nut to 45°.
Use angle gauge 9512050.





AM11. Install new dust cap
Use sleeve 9995225 and plastic mallet.





AM12. Mount brake disc in accordance with marking
Ensure that all mating faces are clean. Install wheel locating stud. Tighten pin to 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.).





AM13. Reinstall brake caliper
Use new bolts. Tighten bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
AM14. Refit wheels as per markings
Finger-tighten nuts, then torque diagonally to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
