Changes in cabling, sensor unit color code, and fault code 1-2-7
The 1995 960 for USA/Canada has SRS (Air bag) system 2.2
This service bulletin describes briefly the changes being introduced for the 1995 960 SRS (Air bag).
The 1995 960 has a new electric system with modified wiring harness where new connectors have been introduced. The changes that affect the SRS (Air bag) are described in this bulletin.
New matching color codes and terminal codings for the SRS (Air bag) sensor-unit label and connectors have been introduced. See Table. For diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 1-2-7, a change has been introduced in the SRS (Air bag) diagnostic system.
Wiring change
960 1995 has a new electric system with a new cable routing and modified wiring harness. The connectors between the wiring harnesses are of a new type. The changes that affect the SRS (Air bag) are listed in the table.
The greater part of the SRS (Air bag) wiring is, as before, routed with the in-car cable harness. The sections which do not follow the in-car harness have an orange colored sheath as previously.
The color code on the connector in the ignition cables is the same as before.
Note!
For additional information on placing of connectors and cable routing, see the current wiring diagram and interior cable harness section together with the connectors section in service manual, Section 3 (39), Wiring Diagrams 960 1995.
The connector to the sensor unit is color coded and has the same color as found on the sensor unit label.
The sensor unit is physically coded with a locking head (terminal coding) to prevent improper connection of connector pins.
Only the following new color codes and terminal codings are indicated in the coding table below:
Changes for SRS (Air bag) system 2.2 in 960 1995 for USA/Canada are marked with * and **.
Change for DTC 1-2-7
A change has been introduced in the SRS (Air beg) diagnostic system:
Note!
DTC 1-2-7 does not light the SRS lamp in the combined instrument.
The SRS lamp, together with the other lamps in the combined instrument, should light up for approx. 10 seconds when ignition is turned on.
If the SRS (Air beg) lamp does not light up:
Read the SRS (Air bag) DTCS. Follow instructions in the service manual, Part 8 (88) SRS (Air bag) 940/960 1993-, chapter DA.
Note!
All other DTCs do light up the SRS lamp.
