Description of On-Board Diagnostics

On-board diagnostics (OBD)

The AW 30-40 and AW 30-43 automatic transmissions are equipped with a control system with an integral diagnostic function based on the same principles as those used in several other electronic systems. The AW 30-40/AW 30-43 OBD system features five test modes to facilitate troubleshooting.

- Test mode 1 enables the DTCs stored in the TCM to be displayed.
- Test mode 2 enables the TCM input signals to be tested.
- Test mode 3 tests the output signals to the system control components. The components are operated in sequence.
- Test mode 4 activates the same components as in test mode 3, but only when a code specific to each component has been entered. The rate of transmission of the flashing codes can also be varied, a feature used when testing with the Volvo ST.
- Test mode 5 enables the signal values from certain sensors to be measured.
