Important Testing Information
Manual locking of locking module with door in open positionThe doors and tailgate can be open during fault tracing operations. The locking module is set in the locked position by pressing in the central locking latch with a screwdriver.
After fault tracing is completed the latch can be released and set in the open position by opening the door using the inner or outer door handle.
Manual immobilization of the door switches
The door switches do not affect central locking functions. If the door switches are to be immobilized this can be done by pressing them in and turning clockwise. The door switches are released when the door is closed again.
Turn the ignition off when
- Connecting or disconnecting test instruments.
- Connecting or disconnecting the central locking relay.
- Connecting or disconnecting connectors.
- Carrying out resistance measurements with an ohmmeter.
- Using a voltmeter, unless otherwise stated in the operation description.
Battery
It is important that battery voltage is normal when testing various components. If necessary a battery charger can be connected while testing.
Maximum permissible charging current: 15 A at 16 V.
- Do disconnect the cables while the engine is running.
- Disconnect the battery terminal cables when booster charging.
Central locking relay
In most of the following fault tracing operations the central locking relay must be removed. Measurements can then be carried out on the central locking relay base terminals.
The central locking relay must be replaced after fault tracing operations are concluded.
To test the activation/deactivation of the central locking functions the central locking relay must be in position.
Carrying out measurements with an ohmmeter/voltmeter
NOTE: Care must be taken when measuring connections for cable terminal pin/sockets in the connector/relay base terminal to ensure that no mechanical damage occurs to the cable terminals or electrical faults occur in the system.
Follow the operation descriptions carefully when measuring. Note the position required for the ignition if an ohmmeter or voltmeter is to be used and which positions measurements are to be carried out at.
- Use care when applying the ohmmeter/voltmeter test probes to cable terminals.
- Never press a probe in to a cable terminal.
Bridging connections
NOTE Take care when making bridge connections to avoid damaging the system.
Connect bridge connections to the stated positions according to the instruction in each operation description.
For a simple bridging terminal on positions for control signals (normally ground signals), use a short cable with stripped cable ends.
For terminal bridging on pos. 87 and pos. 88 with battery voltage in the relay base terminals use a thick section cable (e.g. 1.5 Sq. mm) with 6.3 tab cable terminals.
