S. Check Engagement time
The check provides information about the condition of the brakes and clutch.
NOTE: Carry out several tests and work from the average value of the results. Allow 1 minute to elapse between each test. Always check oil level first. Transmission must have normal working temperature (over 50°C = 122°F).
S1
Measure engagement time from position N to D.
Apply parking brake
Start engine and check idling speed.
S2
Move gear shift from position N to D and use a stopwatch to measure the time which elapses between shifting and engagement (a short jolt).
The time should be less than 0.7 seconds. Repeat the procedure several times and calculate an average time.
S3
Measure engagement time from position N to R.
Repeat the procedure per steps S1-S2 but move gear shift lever from position N to R.
The time should be less than 1.2 seconds.

If engagement time is too long
Replace transmission as per U1-U65. U. Transmission, Replace
