Turn Signal Lever ReplacementWARNING: When removing air bag assembly the battery should always be disconnected. Never reconnect while work is in progress.
- Turn steering wheel to straight ahead position.
- Turn off ignition and disconnect battery negative lead.
- Release air bag assembly by moving two TORX screws on rear of steering wheel.
- Unplug connector and lift away air bag assembly.
- Remove screw from steering wheel center.
- Loosen screw at end of plastic strap from its "park" position in steering wheel. The screw should always remain in plastic strap. Place screw in pin on contact reel. Screw will now lock contact reel in zero position.
NOTE: Do not turn steering wheel or the locking pin will sheer off
- Remove steering wheel.
- Remove screws for upper and lower casings.
- Remove casings.
Reassembly
NOTE: Do not turn the wheel, the contact reel locking pin will sheer off.
- Replace casings.
- Thread lead from contact reel through the hole in the wheel.
- Position the wheel such that the contact reel locking pin is in the center of the hole in steering wheel.
- Refit bolt holding steering wheel finger tight.
- Remove screw in plastic strip from pin and place in park position in steering wheel.
- Tighten steering wheel bolt to 33 Nm (24.3 ft.lb).
- Rest lower part of air bag assembly on steering wheel.
- Plug in connector. Raise assembly and secure with screws.
Torque: 8 Nm (5.9 ft.lb).
- Check that lead is free and not trapped.
- Check that air bag is firmly attached.
- Reconnect battery negative lead.
