If the windshield or side window breaks or cracks, for example due to collision damage, glass splinters can enter the ventilation and defroster ducts.
To prevent glass particles from being blown out of the outlets when the car has been repaired, the defroster ducts and ventilation outlets on the dashboard should be blown out and vacuumed according to the method in this bulletin, before a new windshield or window is installed.
Please make a note in Service Manual Section 8 (88) SRS (Air bag) 850 1993 TP 8801201 page 200 under the heading "The following parts must be checked..."
Refer to SB 8-88-809
A red pen is recommended for entering the note.
Important!
Use protection goggles when blowing/vacuuming out out particles!
Stand clear of flying glass. Cover interior of car with a drop cloth.
When cleaning the defroster:
After damaged windshield is removed select the defroster mode on the controls and adjust the blower fan for max. speed.
At the same time use a vacuum cleaner over the defroster outlet for the windshield and side windows.
When cleaning the ventilation ducts:
Select the ventilation mode on the controls and adjust the blower fan for max. speed.
Open one outlet at a time and vacuum clean outside the ventilation outlet on the dashboard.
