Courtesy Lamp: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: Since the open door warning lamp and courtesy lighting are operated by separate switches installed in the front doors beside the interior lighting switches, the central locking relay does not control these functions.

Delayed interior lighting does not operate: See K7.
Interior lighting does not switch off: See K8.

K1: Checking Fuse 15 And Bulbs

Switch off ignition.
Remove fuse 15.
Remove the bulb from the non-operational interior light.
Check whether bulb and/or fuse 15 is intact.

If fuse 15 and bulb are Intact:
Check interior lighting as per K2.
Reinstall fuse and bulb.

If fuse 15 or bulb is faulty.
Replace faulty bulb and/or fuse 15.
Check interior lighting as per K2.

K2: Checking Interior Lighting

Switch off ignition.
Check if interior lighting can be switched on and off using root light switch.

If interior lighting can be operated:
Check roof light signal lead as per K3.

If interior lighting cannot be operated:
Open-circuit in supply lead between fuseholder terminal 11/15:2 (fuse 15) and root light terminal 10/22:1. Correct fault or replace roof light supply lead.

K3: Checking Roof Light Signal Lead

Switch off ignition.
Set roof light switch to activate when door is opened.

Remove central locking relay 2/7.
Ground relay base terminal LA by bridging with terminal 31.
Interior light should come on.

If Interior lighting comes on:
Check operation of Interior lighting as per K4.

If Interior lighting does not come on:
Open circuit or short-circuit to supply in signal lead between relay base terminal LA and roof light terminal 10/22:5.
Correct fault or replace root light signal lead.
Reinstall central locking relay 2/7.

K4: Checking operation of interior lighting

Switch off ignition.
Set root light switch to activate when door is opened.

Close doors and trunk.
Bridge relay base terminals LA and T.
Interior lighting should come on if the trunk or any door is opened.

If lighting comes on:
Check interior lighting ground lead as per C21.

If interior lighting does not come on:
Check interior lighting switches in central locking units as per K5.

K5: Checking Interior Lighting Switches In Central Locking Units

Switch off Ignition.
Reinstall central locking relay 2/7.
Remove all door panels.
Open central locking unit connectors.

Front door units.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 6 and 14 in central locking unit 14-pin connector.
Ohmmeter should Indicate 0 Ohm with door open.
Ohmmeter should Indicate infinite resistance with door closed.

Rear door units.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 2 and 5 in central locking unit 8-pin connector.
Ohmmeter should Indicate 0 Ohm with door open. Ohmmeter should show Infinite resistance with closed door.

If reading is correct:
Check ground lead to interior lighting switch in central locking unit as per K6.

If reading is Incorrect:
Fault in central locking unit interior lighting switch or central locking unit wiring hamess.
Correct fault or replace complete central locking unit.

K6: Checking Interior lighting switch ground leads In central locking units

Switch off ignition.
Remove all door panels.
Open central locking unit connectors.

Front door units.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 14 in wiring harness 14-pin wiring harness and ground.
Ohmmeter should indicate 0 Ohm.

Rear door units.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 5 in wiring harness 8-pin connector and ground.
Ohmmeter should Indicate 0 Ohm.

If readings are correct:
Open-circuit in signal lead between wiring harness connector and central locking relay. Correct fault or replace signal lead from central locking relay as specified below:

Front doors: Signal lead between terminal 6 in wiring hamess 14-pin connector and relay base terminal T Rear doors: Signal lead between terminal 8 in wiring hamess 8-pin connector and relay base terminal T.

If reading is Incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in ground lead between wiring harness connector and ground point.
Correct fault or replace ground lead as specified below:

Front doors: Ground lead between terminal 14 in wiring harness 14-pin connector and ground point 31/7 in driver's side A-post or 31/15 on passenger side.

Rear doors: Ground lead between terminal 5 in wiring hamess 8-pin connector and ground terminal 31/47 on left cross-member; or 31/48 on right cross-member.

K7: Delayed Interior lighting Does Not Operate

Switch off Ignition.
Remove central locking relay 2/7.
Connect a voltmeter across relay base terminals 15 and 31.
Voltmeter should indicate 0 V.

If reading is correct:
Check the Interior lighting ground connection as per C21.

If reading Is Incorrect:
Short circuit to supply in lead between fuse holder terminal 11/3:2 (fuse 3) and relay base terminal 15.
Correct fault or replace lead between terminal 11/3:2 and relay base terminal 15. Reinstall central locking relay 2/7.

K8: Delayed Interior Lighting Does Not Switch Off

Switch off Ignition.
Remove central locking relay 2/7.
Switch on ignition.
Connect a voltmeter across relay base terminals 15 and 31.
Voltmeter should indicate battery voltage.

If reading Is correct:
Check interior lighting ground lead as per C21.
If reading Is Incorrect:
Check voltage supply (15) to fuse 3 in fusebox as per K9.

K9: Checking Supply (15) To Fuse 3 In Fusebox

Switch off Ignition.
Remove fuse 3. Replace fuse 3 If faulty.

Switch on ignition.
Connect a voltmeter between fuseholder terminal 11/3:1 (fuse 3) and ground. Voltmeter should indicate battery voltage.
