Measuring Lateral Run-Out on Brake Disc [KH]
Special tools: 1158147 torque socket, 999 5418 measurement tool set, 999 5442 clamp ring and 999 5507 bolt set
Preparations [KH1]
- Get measurement tool set 999 5418.
Front:
Remove brake caliper from caliper mounting as per KA1-KA3, then continue as below. Service and Repair
Rear:
Remove brake caliper from rear axle, see KF4, then continue as below. Service and Repair
Installing clamp ring [KH2]
Hubs with four wheel bolts:
- Install clamp ring 999 5442 on hub with wheel nuts.
Hubs with five wheel bolts:
- Install clamp ring 999 5419 from measurement tool set 999 5418 on hub with wheel nuts.
- Make sure that contact surfaces on brake disc and clamp ring are clean.
- Tighten bolts hand tight, then tighten across to 110 Nm (80 ft.lb). When tightening with air gun, use torque socket 1158147.
Installing test equipment [KH3]
Install measurement tool set bracket.
Front:
Attach bracket to caliper mounting with mounting bolts from bolt set 999 5507.
Rear:
Attach bracket to brake caliper mounting lugs with bolts from measurement tool set 999 5418.
[KH4]
Brake disc maximum lateral run-out must not exceed 0.040 mm (0.0016") (brake disc front) or 0.080 mm (0.0031") (brake disc rear).
- Remove test equipment.
- If brake disc maximum lateral run-out is out of limits, it must be re-turned, if you have a turning tool available, or be replaced. Replacement procedure as per KE (front) or KF(rear). Service and Repair
