Installing glass sunroof weatherstrip

This SB describes the procedure for properly installing a new weatherstrip on the glass sunroof. The sealing lip on the strip at the rear and sides of the panel must be removed when the weatherstrip has been installed, leaving only the lip at the front edge (between the guide rails).

WARNING:
Be careful not to scratch panel while it is removed from vehicle.

Installation of weatherstrip Remove sunroof and place upside down on soft clean surface.

Remove old weatherstrip

Position one end of new weatherstrip at mid-point of rear edge and press onto frame as far as front corner. Proceed to Installation of weatherstrip guide below.

Installation of weatherstrip guide





Place plastic guide (D) (P/N 6817610-6, 2 required) into one front inside corner of weatherstrip as illustrated.

Press weatherstrip and guide into position in metal frame.

Press weatherstrip into position as far as next front corner and install another guide as described above. press weatherstrip into position around entire edge of panel.

Note:
Seat each guide against outer edge of recess E in frame as indicated by arrows.

Cutting weatherstrip





Place weatherstrip joint at mid-point of rear edge of panel. Cut off surplus material with scissors

Note:
Sharp scissors must be used to ensure that cut is clean and straight. This is essential to ensure neat joint and achieve satisfactory bonding of adhesive (see lower illustration).





Bonding of weatherstrip

Bond both ends of weatherstrip together with 3M super weatherstrip adhesive (black) (3M # 08008).





Removal of sealing lip on weatherstrip

Place panel loosely on top of frame in car as illustrated.

Slit front edge of sealing lip at guide rail on each side as illustrated. Pull off sealing lip A (lower illustration, shaded area), starting at slit and working backward as far as joint at rear edge of panel. Lip is notched along full length to facilitate removal.



Installation of sunroof

Reinstall glass sunroof as described in service manual.
