Reducing door-closing force
850 1993 all, 1994 partial

REFERENCE: TP 31854/1 (ENGLISH); 5/92; INTERIOR, EXTERIOR 850 1992-

On vehicles which are experiencing a high-door closing force, a shim has been developed to reduce the force. This shim, p/n 9152294-6, should be installed between the rubber pad and the bracket at the striker plate. This shim can be installed on vehicles with chassis numbers LOWER than (and including) the numbers stated below:

Vehicle Front door Rear door

854 108530 109059
855 019543 019986

Vehicles with chassis numbers HIGHER than mentioned above have a new door lock design where the latching-dog is modified. Shims should not be installed on these vehicles, as it will only increase the door opening and closing force as well as potentially affect the door locking function.

INSTALLATION OF SHIM

Place the shim between the rubber pad and the bracket.

Insert the shim around the striker plate and press in the shim until it stops.

Tap the shim carefully in position.

If necessary, use Cyanoacrylate structural adhesive to keep the shim in position (normally not necessary).

Check that the shim does not extend outside the rubber stop. Adjust as necessary with a file.

Check that the door-closing force is reduced and the door-opening force not has increased.

If the door-opening force has increased, adjust as follows:

Loosen the screws and holding striker plate. Tap the inner part 1-2 mm downwards. It is important that the position (outer edge) where the shim is, is not changed.

Tighten the screws to 25 +/- 5 Nm (18 +/- 4 ft lbs). Check the fit and locking functions of the door.
