Replacement/Adjustment of trunk lock

This bulletin describes:
^ removal and installation of lock unit
^ replacement of central locking motor
^ replacement of microswitch
^ replacement of link rods

REMOVAL OF LOCK

Bend aside soundproofing





Disconnect link rods. Remove locking tab (1) at handle and pry out rod.
Open locking tab (2) on rod between lock and cylinder.
Remove rod.

Undo lock connector (3)

Remove lock unit from trunk lid. Remove three lock mounting bolts.

Open lock unit
Remove cover by prying carefully upwards by hand.

Lift and free wiring.

Replacement of central locking motor

Remove motor





Press lever bracket (1) upward while pressing central locking plunger (2) downward through oblong hole in bracket.

Next, press plunger guide (3) downward and release motor from mechanism.

Disconnect blue-red and red-white leads from 8-pole connector.

Install motor

Place blue-red lead in slot 7 and red-white lead in slot 6.

Place motor unit in housing. Press lever bracket upward, press central locking plunger downward and position guide in groove.

Note:
Ensure that latch is correctly positioned. Guide should be located in latch (4).

REPLACEMENT OF MICROSWITCH

Remove microswitch





Release locking clip (1) and carefully pry out microswitch (2) with round-nose pliers.

Note:
Since microswitch is mounted on guide pin in lock housing, do not force switch sideways.

Remove microswitch from lock housing and disconnect leads from connector. (Black lead is located in slot 8 and red-green lead in slot 1).

Install microswitch

Apply light coating of contact cement to contact surfaces between lock housing and microswitch. Locate microswitch in position, ensuring that it is securely held by locking clip and two guides in housing. Reconnect leads to connector. (Black lead in slot 8 and red-green lead in slot 1)

Close lock unit

Reinstall wiring and connector in original locations.
Refit cover.

Installation of lock

Reinstall lock unit





Place lock in position and tighten three mounting bolts. Attach link to handle and fold over locking tab (1).

Adjust link rod

Open trunk and turn key to service position.

Remove cover over right-hand tail light.

Pull back trunk lid panel to expose lock mechanism.

Open clip in link between lock and lock cylinder.





Free link section (A) from clip.





Pull both sections of link towards each other (see arrows in illustration), place together and secure in position with clip.

On new lock, link is sealed in service position. Seal should remain intact when link sections are secured with clip and is broken when key is turned for first time.

New lock cylinders are supplied in normal position and must be turned to service position before link sections can be secured with clip.

Test operation of lock.

Install panel and cover for tail light.
