WELDING CLIP MOUNTINGS FOR ROOF MOLDING

When replacing molding clips do not drill holes for pop rivets or corrosion will result. The clip mountings for the trim moldings can come off when carrying out repairs to the roof or roof posts.

The following instructions are for use with Volvo's recommended tool.

Using additional equipment (P/N 9988144-3) for "bulfix", new clips can be installed in places difficult to access using an arc welder.

(Refer to Workshop Bulletin no. 155 for details of additional equipment.)

Carefully sand oft paint where the clip mounting is to be installed.

Note:
Take care not to cut through the zinc body coating

TAKE MEASUREMENTS FOR LOCATION OF THE CLIP MOUNTING

Compare measurements with nearby clip mountings.

WELD THE CLIP MOUNTING INTO POSITION.

Measure height of the mounting.

The height should be 3.5 mm (9/64 in)

If height is over 3.5 mm (9/64 in); grind off mounting.

Take a new mounting and grind off the excess compared with the old mounting before installing it in the bulfix.

Note:
The bulfix has no timer setting.

^ To ensure the correct time the trigger should be depressed 0.5-1.0 seconds.

^ Excessive welding can damage the body panel.

- Check the height of the clip mounting.

- Apply primer coat.

- Apply top coat.

- Apply anti-corrosion protection (see Service Manual Section 8 Bodywork and glass).
