Base-solid paint and clear lacquer on bumper cover
A base-solid paint and clear lacquer finish has been introduced on the bumper cover during the 1993 model year. The following colors are available:
Color No. Introduced
Red 601 November 1992
Black 019 November 1992
White 189 January 1993
What is a base-solid paint and clear lacquer finish? The finish consists of two coats - a base coat of matt paint and a coat of clear lacquer on top.
All paintwork repairs to components with this type of finish must be carried out with the same materials to ensure that differences in shade do not appear later.
Minor scratches on bumper covers with the finish can be removed by polishing.
Identification of base-solid paint and clear lacquer finish
Bumpers with a base-solid paint and clear lacquer finish can be identified by polishing a small area with a polishing compound and cloth. If the cloth does not acquire the same color as the bumper, the finish is the new type.
If cloth does acquire the same color as the bumper, the paint is the earlier solid type.
The paintwork repair procedure is basically the same as for a metallic paint with a clear lacquer finish.
