Adjustment of rubber stops for trunk lid
Contact between the trunk lid and tail lamp assemblies may occur when closing the trunk lid. In severe cases, components may be damaged.
Possible causes are that the rubber stops are too low or that the trunk lid has been replaced.
Contact between the lamp assemblies and lid may be eliminated by adjusting the lid and replacing the stops with components of the correct height.
Rubber stops are available in different heights as listed in this bulletin.
Check and adjust fit and closing clearance of trunk lid.
Procedure is described in Service Manual.
1. Remove existing stops.
2. Shape two pieces of body sealing compound to a diameter of 10-15 mm (3/8" - 5/8") and a length of 15-20 mm (5/8" - 3/4").
3. Place pieces of sealer beside stop mounting holes.
4. Close trunk lid slowly until flush with rear fenders.
Carry out check at level of side stops (arrowed in illustration).
5. Open trunk and measure height of compound at each side with sliding calipers.
6. Subtract 2 mm (3/64") from measured values. Select rubber stop of nearest equivalent height. Part numbers of stops are listed in adjoining table.
7. Remove compound pieces and install new rubber stops.
Use 4 mm (5/32") dia. drift (see illustration) and "lubricate" mounting plug on stop with soapy water.
Align stripes parallel with longitudinal axis of car.
8. Close boot and check that lid is flush with both rear fenders. Check at level of side stops (arrowed in illustration in step 4).
Note:
If lid is difficuit to close, adjust locking catch in sideways direction.
