Repair to program selector lead


This information is for 960 models up to and including 1992 chassis number (964) -024238 and (965) -008445. There may be the following fault codes: 1-1-4; open circuit in program selector wiring or 1-2-4; interruption to ground in program selector wiring. These can be the result of poor contact within the program selector lead.





When the center console is removed, strips. of adhesive felt tape (p/n 6812838) should be attached to the edge of the gear selector surround as illustrated (two packets of tape are required).



Procedure

Disconnect battery ground lead.

Remove center console.

Repair wiring as necessary (e.g. with tape).

Cut two strips of 2 cm (0.78 in) wide felt tape, p/n 6812838.

Stick four strips of tape to left-hand side of gear selector lever surround exactly as illustrated.

Also apply tape to edge of surround in front of instrument panel. If required, cut out openings for screws.



Reinstall components

Reinstall center console.

Reconnect battery ground lead.

Clear fault codes.


Check that no fault codes remain present

Test-drive car.

Request fault codes, correct fault (if any) and clear codes.
