Camshaft pulleys and timing belt, installation
To ensure correct camshaft timing and that timing belt teeth are properly seated in the pulleys, it is important that the timing belt be installed correctly.
Before tightening the camshaft pulley bolts, press hard on the section of the belt between the pulleys or tap the belt with a plastic mallet. Press or tap twice. Repeat on the section between the exhaust camshaft pulley and coolant pump.
Note:
This procedure should be done when the camshaft pulleys have been removed.
Position belt on pulleys
Press belt hard or tap with plastic mallet in direction of arrow (1). Press or tap twice. Repeat procedure in direction of arrow (2).
Tighten camshaft pulleys
Tighten bolts in camshaft ends to 20 N-m (15 ft.lb.).
