Camshaft Timing Belt

The Camshaft Timing Belt Replacement interval for 1992 960 models has been revised.

Volvo now recommends replacement at 20,000 mile/32,000 km intervals, rather than 30,000 mile/48,000 km intervals. Volvo will cover the cost of replacing the timing belt at the first 20,000 mile/32,000 km and 40,000 mile/64,000 km interval.

All other requirements listed as part of these services are the owner's responsibility.

The service should be completed before the vehicle exceeds the interval by 2,500 miles/4,000 kms.

A standard warranty claim is to be submitted with all required fields completed.

The following information must be supplied:

Operation Number 172326
Hours 1.0

Defect Code 80
Failed Part # 3507651-2

Replaced Part # (Timing Belts) 3507651-2
Quantity 1

Toe-In

The Pre-Delivery Service will now include a toe-in adjustment for 1992 960 models. All 960 vehicles in stock must be checked and adjusted to the specifications listed in this bulletin prior to retail delivery or being put into demonstrator service.

If the vehicle has been retailed, the toe-in is to be adjusted at the next oil change interval (either the 5,000 mile/8,000 km or subsequent service).

Submission of a separate "W" claim will be required for reimbursement. All required information is to be entered including: RO number, date, VIN, etc. Use Operation Number 601006, .4 hrs. and Defect Code 51. Only one (1) toe-in claim per vehicle may be submitted. Dealers should check DCS Service Inquiry prior to claim submission to ensure the adjustment has not been previously completed.

Tire Rotation

Additionally, at the 5,000 mile/8,000 km oil change, the 960 vehicles' tires must be rotated (see attached diagram). Operation Number 771026 (Rotate tires and balance front wheels-.4 hrs.), is to be added to "W" claim submission in conjunction with the ftee 5,000 mile/8,000 km oil change service.

If the vehicle has already had the 5,000 mile/8,000 km oil change completed, the rotation (and balancing) should be completed at the next service interval and a separate "W" claim is to be submitted for reimbursement. All required fields must be entered. Use Operation Number 771026 and Defect Code 51.

Volvo also recommends that the tires be rotated as part of every 10,000 mile/16,000 km service. Owners will be notified of this maintenance change. Tire Rotation, after the initial rotation has been claimed for, at and beyond the 10,000 mile/16,000 km service is at the owner's option and any cost would, therefore, be the owner's responsibility.

Tire Noise

If a customer has a complaint concerning tire noise and their vehicle is in service for less than one (1) year or the vehicle mileage is less than 15,000 miles/24,000 km, inspect the front and rear tires before rotating. If you have excessive "feathering" or "cupping" on the outer tire edges, contact your Goodyear tire dealer or representative for further instructions on behalf of your customer.

"Watch Your Savings"

960 model vehicles eligible for the "Watch Your Savings" program will have .4 hrs added to each 10,000 mile/16,000 km service interval to cover rotation and wheel balancing.

IMPORTANT:
ALL 960 OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THESE CHANGES WITHIN A FEW WEEKS. A 960 SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION BOOKLET WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO EACH OWNER FROM VOLVO.

Volvo will supply each dealer sufficient quantities of this booklet for 1992 model year 960's in current and future dealer stock.

The changes included in this booklet must be reviewed with each owner as part of the "Keeping the Promise" program at delivery.
