Owners of 960 vehicles within the VIN ranges listed for this campaign will be contacted by letter directly from Volvo the week of November 23, 1992.

When arranging the appointment date, please advise the customer of the following:

- Use of a loaner vehicle will be provided while the owner's vehicle is being upgraded as part of the campaign.

- Their vehicle will be returned in a clean condition (inside and out) and topped up with a full tank of premium unleaded gas.

Maintenance Information

Service Manager Bulletin 00-139 dated May 1992, detailed changes in the camshaft timing belt replacement interval.

A torsion damper has been introduced on the 1993 960 model which allows the timing belt replacement interval to be increased to 30,000 miles/48,000 km. The torsion damper should be fitted to all 1992 models as part of the 40,000/64,000 km service. It is your responsibility to perform this upgrade when any 1992 960 returns to your dealership for its 40,000 mile/64,000 km service.

NOTE:
Volvo will pay for replacement of the camshaft timing belt at the first 20,000 mile/ 32,000 km service (see SMB 00-139) and will pay for replacement or the belt and installation of the torsion damper at the 40,000 mile/64,000 km service interval.

Once the torsion damper is fitted at the 40,000 mile/64,000 km service, the bell replacement will be at 30,000 mile/48,000 km intervals and will be the owner's responsibility. A label affixed to the timing belt cover will identify the interval replacement increase to 30,000 mile/48,000 km intervals.

THE TORSION DAMPER IS NOT TO BE INSTALLED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CAMPAIGN, RATHER AS PART OF THE 40,000 MILE/64,000 KM MAINTENANCE SERVICE. Refer to Service Bulletin 21-118 for installation instructions, and Service Manager Bulletin 00-137 dated November 1992 for Maintenance Reimbursement procedures.
