ALL VOLVO DEALERS - U.S. AND CANADA

RE:
SERVICE CAMPAIGN 60A

Service Campaign 60 covering certain 1992 model year 960 vehicles was launched to demonstrate our continued service support and commitment to improving our products.

Since the initial launch in May 1992 additional technical improvements have been developed to enhance vehicle performance. Therefore, Service Campaign 60 is being expanded to include replacement of the engine speed (RPM) sensor to eliminate a potential no-start condition. Additionally, owners will be advised that a torsion damper to extend the camshaft belt replacement interval will be installed at the 40,000 mile/64,000 km service.

The special care procedures detailed in Service Manager Bulletin 00-139 dated May 1992, apply to the repair visit for the engine (RPM) speed sensor exchange when completed separately from a normal maintenance. These procedures are intended to reaffirm a "New Way of Doing Business." The procedures include:

1. Vehicles returned to the owner with the interior and exterior cleaned.

2. Vehicles topped with premium unleaded gas.

3. Alternate transportation. This includes either the use of a Volvo loaner car or demonstration vehicle (i.e., 240, 700, 900 series car).

Your dealership will be reimbursed for the expenses.

Your support is critical in keeping the promise to 960 owners. This process requires high quality involvement and support from all dealer personnel.

A complete description of the repair requirements and claim submission procedures is included with this dealer package. It is the dealer's responsibility to review the details provided in the informational materials listed with all dealership personnel involved.

Customer Notification

All owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by letter directly from Volvo on or about the week of November 23, 1992.

Campaign Responsibility

Dealers are to repair all vehicles within the applicable vehicle ranges regardless of mileage or vehicle age. The repairs covered by this service campaign are free-of-charge to the owner. Dealers are to schedule the appropriate shop time based on the pick up schedule or drop off by the owner.

Once the engine speed sensor replacement has been completed, the 960 vehicle is to be washed and the interior/exterior cleaned before returning to the owner. Additionally, the dealer must ensure that the vehicle is returned with a full tank of premium unleaded gas.

This repair, as well as the use of the loaner vehicle, wash/clean and topping of premium unleaded fuel is free-of-charge to the owner and applies to retailed vehicles only.

Stock Vehicles

All stock vehicles within the chassis range must have Campaign 60 and 60A completed prior to customer delivery or dealer trade.

A standard warranty claim will be used for reimbursement.

No car within the affected range is to leave your dealership without having Campaign 60 and 60A completed.

Campaign Reimbursement

For 960 retail customer cars, reimbursement will include provisions for the repair time, loaner use, washing/cleaning and topping of premium fuel as applicable. This campaign applies to all upgrades except the torsion damper which will be completed as part of the 40,000 mile/64,000 km maintenance service.

For demonstrators or cars in stock only the engine speed sensor repair procedure will apply, not the special care procedures.
