D24T
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA
Service check of cold start device
As part of every 30,000 mile (48,000 km) maintenance service, the cold start device should be checked when checking/adjusting idle speed.
Check/adjust cold start device
Cold engine. Use a feeler gauge to measure distance between injection pump lever and idle stop screw.
Note: The cold start device should be engaged.
Distance should be 2.5 mm
To adjust
This distance between the cold start device lever and stop screw can be adjusted as follows:
- Loosen ball stop screw.
- Place feeler gauge in position.
- Move ball stop to correct position.
- Retighten screw and remove gauge.
Check fast idle
Connect Volvo Mono-Tester. Start engine and check that idle speed is 200 rpm higher than value obtained when engine was warm, i.e. approximately 1030 rpm.
Warm-up engine
Warm-up engine and check that cold start device ball stop does not contact injection pump lever.
