ACCUMULATOR/DRIER
700 Series
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA.
The accumulator/drier serves a two-fold purpose. One is to act as reservoir for surplus refrigerant; the other is to remove moisture from refrigerant as it travels in a vapor form from the evaporator to the compressor. The accumulator/drier is made of two aluminum halves welded together. The outlet tube is designed in such a way as to prevent liquid from being delivered to the compressor. A bag of drying agent (desiccant) is situated in the bottom of the accumulator/drier to absorb moisture. The accumulator/drier is equipped with two service valves (Schraeder valves). The pressure sensor is installed on one; the other may be used to fill the system or to perform pressure checks.
When installing/servicing the air conditioning system or parts, use care to prevent moisture and humid air from entering system components.
NOTE: Do not remove plastic sealing caps until immediately before installation.
The accumulator/drier must be the last item installed in the system. Evacuate the system immediately after connecting the accumulator/drier.
NOTE: Remember! The desiccant in the accumulator/drier will extract moisture from the surrounding air upon being opened.
SPECIAL NOTE
The Warranty Department will accept accumulator/drier replacements on claims in conjunction with warranty repairs which involve opening the A/C system during replacement of compressor, hoses, expansion valves, etc. The purpose of this policy is to ensure proper repair due to a manufacturing fault, and to prevent potential customer come-backs concerning the A/C system.
