RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS

The following list of oils exceed minimum requirements of API-SG in several requirements (High Temperature Oxidation, and High Temperature High Shear Stability). Oils listed are recommended for use in all Volvo GASOLINE engines. This list will be reviewed periodically and updated accordingly.


Please note the Viscosity API Service Grade (SG/CD), and the product name, to ensure that the recommended product is being obtained. Also, the above listed oils are RECOMMENDED and dealers are highly encouraged to use the oils listed. However, for repairs covered by the Volvo new car warranty, only an oil listed above may be used.

Note:
SYNTHETIC OILS are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for, vehicles operating in temperature extremes (very cold or very hot climates), continuous mountain driving, trailer pulling and for turbocharged engines. The use of 15W40 oil should be limited to engines in extreme duty. See SMB 17-4 dated December, 1990. For diesel engines, please refer to the original owners manual recommendations.
