Fuel Gauge Sender: Service and Repair

Tank unit, replacement




Disconnect battery ground lead
4-door models
- Fold back boot carpet.
- Remove tiller pipe protective cover.
5-door models
- Lift floor cover.




Drain fuel
^ Use tank drainage unit
^ Extract fuel through tiller opening.




^ Undo tank unit connector.
^ Remove tank unit cover. Clean area around unit and hose connections.
^ Disconnect hoses from unit.
^ Remove unit and 0-ring seal. Use tool 5169.

Install new tank unit
Use new 0-ring. Lubricate ring with glycenne or similar medium.
Install locking ring using tool 5169.




Refit tank unit cover
^ Reconnect unit connector.
Remember to fit rubber grommet in cover.

Fill fuel tank and replace filler cap.
Reconnect battery ground lead and start engine




4-door models
- Install filler pipe protective cover.
- Refit boot carpet.

5-door models
Replace floor cover in position.
