Pyrotechnic Battery Isolator, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Refer to => [ Pyrotechnic Battery Isolator Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Refer to => [ Pyrotechnic Battery Isolator Disposal ] Procedures.

Removing

- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and move the ignition key or start button into the 0 position (preliminary engaged position).

- Remove the service cover - 1 - from the side trim panel - 2 - in the direction of the arrow.






- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Open locks of main fuse box - 1 - by rotating 90° counterclockwise and fold open cover downward.






- Remove the collar nut - 1 - and remove B+ wire - 2 - from connection thread.






- Remove the self-locking nut - 4 - and remove pyrotechnic battery isolator - 3 - from connection threads, paying attention to the connected wire lengths.

- Disengage harness connector - 1 - by pulling locking button - 3 - in direction of arrow.






- Disconnect harness connector - 1 - in direction of arrow and remove pyrotechnic battery isolator - 2 - from vehicle.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

When connecting harness connector to pyrotechnic battery isolator, make sure that connector lock engages audibly.

- Tighten all threaded connections to specified torques shown in => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.

- Connect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
