Shifter A/T: Description and Operation






Selector Mechanism Overview

Move the selector lever into the "P" position and set the parking brake before working with the engine running.






1 Selector Handle with Cover

Do not remove the handle unnecessarily. For emergency release, only the cover must be removed. Refer to => [ Selector Lever, Manual Release ] Procedures.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

2 Clamp

Always replace.

For securing the selector handle to the selector lever.

Attach to the selector handle using hose clamp pliers (V.A.G 1275).

3 Selector Mechanism with Selector Lever Cable

With integrated selector lever sensor system control module (J587) with selector lever (E313) , Tipronic switch (F189) , selector lever park position lock switch (F319) and selector lever solenoid (N110).

The selector lever cable can only be replaced together with the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism with Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Mechanism with Selector Lever Cable.

Do not grease the selector lever cable.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism with Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Mechanism with Selector Lever Cable.

Adjusting, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

6 Selector Housing

Available only together with the selector mechanism, refer to the Parts Catalog.

7 Bracket

For the selector lever cable.

8 Selector Lever Cable

Must not be removed from the selector mechanism and is replaced together as a single component.
