Cooling System

Cooling System

CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:

Route all lines and wires in their original locations.

Make sure the wires have enough clearance to all moving or hot components.

CAUTION!
Hot steam may escape when opening the expansion tank cap. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open very carefully.

When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure. If necessary release the pressure before beginning repair work.

Hoses are secured with spring type clips. In cases of repair, only use spring type clips.

Hose clip pliers (VAS 6340) or hose clip pliers (VAS 6362) are recommended for installing spring clamps.

While installing, route coolant hoses free of tension and without them coming into contact with other components.

The marks on the coolant pipes and hoses must align with each other.

Always replace gaskets and seals.

Perform a leak test on the cooling system using cooling system tester (V.A.G 1274) and adapters (V.A.G 1274/8) and (V.A.G 1274/9).
