Cylinder Head Overview






Cylinder Head Overview

The components illustrated here are for cylinder bank 1. They are a mirror image of the components for cylinder bank 2.






1 Connecting Hose

For vehicles with engine code BWF.

To the crankcase ventilation valve.

Make sure the hose is secure.

2 Gasket

For vehicles with engine code BWF.

Replace if damaged.

Make sure it is tight.

3 Adapter

For vehicles with engine code BWF.

For the intake hose between the air filter and intake manifold flap.

4 Acoustic Cover

For vehicles with engine code BWF.

5 Cylinder Head Cover

For vehicles with engine code BWF.

Always clean the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head cover with a clean cloth before setting in place.

Replace the gasket together with the cylinder head cover if damaged or leaking.

Observe the bolt tightening sequence.

6 Acoustic Cover

For vehicles with engine code BKW.

7 Cylinder Head Cover

For vehicles with engine code BKW.

Always clean the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head cover with a clean cloth before setting in place.

Replace the gasket together with cylinder head cover if damaged or leaking.

Observe the bolt tightening sequence.

8 Bolt

20 Nm

Between the control housing and cylinder head.

9 Cylinder Head Gasket

Always replace

Install a new gasket of the same strength.

Imprint of replacement part numbers - A - must be readable.

After replacing, replace the entire amount of coolant.

10 Cylinder Head

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Heads ] Cylinder Heads.

11 Bolt

Always replace

Observe the sequence for loosening and tightening. Refer to => [ Cylinder Heads ] Cylinder Heads.

12 Gasket

For vehicles with engine code BKW.

Replace if damaged.

Make sure it is tight.

13 Connection Piece

For vehicles with engine code BKW.

To the crankcase ventilation valve.

Make sure it is tight.

Cylinder Head Cover Bolt Tightening Sequence





- Tighten the bolts - 1 through 16 - in the sequence shown to 10 Nm.

Cylinder Head Gasket Identification





1. Number of holes (specifies thickness of gasket) 1

2. Control code (disregard)

3. Replacement part number


1 The cylinder head gasket is available in three different strengths, whereby the number of holes indicates the corresponding strength. Refer to the Parts Catalog. Always install a new gasket of the same strength when replacing.
