Valve Body
Valve Body
Do not run engine with the oil pan removed or without Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and do not tow vehicle.
• Valve body or wiring harnesses can also be removed with the transmission installed.
• Install seals with ATF. Other lubricating substances lead to functional problems in the hydraulic transmission control.
• Always replace a contaminated or faulty valve body.
• Do not use fluffy cloths!
• After installing the oil pan, the ATF level must be checked and topped off. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking and Filling ] Testing and Inspection.
Removing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)
• Torque wrench (VAG 1756)
- Remove the oil filter. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Disconnect the electrical connector form the solenoid valves, refer to - items 1 through 8 - in => [ Wiring Routing and
Connectors ] Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
To unlock the connector housing on the solenoid valves, use a flat head screwdriver with a 2.5 mm shaft diameter.
If a connector or the connector housing is damaged, then the wiring harness or solenoid valve must be replaced.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors, refer to - items A and B - in => [ Wiring Routing and
Connectors ] Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Remove the bracket for the connectors, refer to - items 1 and 2 - in => [ Bracket for Connectors,
Securing the Wires ] Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Disconnect the transmission fluid temperature sensor (G93) and carefully remove it from the valve body.
- Bend the securing plate - arrows - on the shift lever nut down.
- Remove the shift lever - 1 - from the shift rod.
- Carefully hold the shift lever - 1 - in place using pliers - 2 - so that the torque is not transferred to the multi-function transmission range switch (F125).
- Make sure the valve - 3 - on the valve body in which the shift lever engages is not damaged.
The valve is very sensitive. Even minor damage leads to malfunction.
- Always slide the valve into the body, secure it against falling out and never exchange it.
- Loosen the marked bolts - arrows - (quantity 12 ).
If other bolts are loosened, the valve body will distort.
- Remove the brackets - 1 and 2 -.
- Disconnect and remove the valve body.
- When removing the valve body, pay attention to the damper piston - 2 -.
- Remove the piston with the spring.
Installing
To make sure that the lines do not get pinched during installation:
- Route and attach the wires - 1, 3, 4 and 5 - as shown in the illustration.
Distance - a - must be observed so that wiring harness - 5 - does not make contact with the planetary gear and then would be damaged while driving.
The valve body is secured with bolts with three different lengths.
- Sort the bolts according to length before installing the valve body.
- Coat the damper piston - 2 - with ATF and install the spring.
- Install the valve body carefully and secure it using 2 bolts.
Bolt Lengths and Locations on the Valve Body
- Make sure the lines are not pinched.
- Install the remaining bolts and the brackets - 1 and 2 - and counter turn by hand.
- Install the transmission fluid temperature sensor and tighten, tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications.
- Connect the connectors (quantity 8) to the solenoid valves. Refer to => [ Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Connect the bracket for the connectors. Refer to => [ Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body, tightening specification => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications.
- Connect the connectors - items A and B - in => [ Wiring Routing and
Connectors ] Line Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Tighten the valve body bolts from the inside toward the outside diagonally; tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications.
- Install the shift lever.
- Tighten nut for shift lever - 1 -, tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications.
- Carefully hold the shift lever - 1 - in place using pliers - 2 - so that the torque is not transferred to the multi-function transmission range switch.
- Bend the securing plate - arrows - on the nut up.
- Install the oil filter. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Add ATF, check the ATF level and top off. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking and Filling ] Testing and Inspection.
- Connect the (VAS 5051) and move through selections until "Functions-/component selections" is displayed.
- Then press "Powertrain (Repair Group 01; 10 to 26; 28 to 39)".
- After that "6-speed automatic transmission 09G".
- Press "01 - On Board Diagnostic".
- Press "Functions".
- Press "Basic Setting".
