Engine Installing

Engine, Installing

When installing powertrain in body, it is absolutely necessary to rest engine carrier against body using scissor lift table (VAS 6131). By pulling up engine carrier via the mounting bolts, the threaded inserts will be damaged!

Work procedure

Installation is in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

If engine was separated from transmission:

- Check whether alignment bushings for centralizing the engine/transmission are equipped in cylinder block, install if necessary.

If subframe with axle assemblies has been removed from scissor lift table:

- Position axle assembly with subframe again on prepared scissor lift table.

- Set engine on assembly carrier.

If transmission is not yet bolted on:

- Support engine from below using support (VAS 6131/8).

- Before installing the assembly, install exhaust manifolds with catalytic converters onto engine.

CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:

Route lines of all types (e.g. for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.

To prevent damages to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.

- When installing engine, lift scissor lift table only far enough to clip in selector lever cable.

- Reconnect all lines, hoses and electrical connections that were disconnected for the removal procedure.

- Top off ATF level.

- Connect air conditioning lines.

- Fill air conditioning system with refrigerant again.

- Fill up oil for power steering.

- Fill with coolant --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Fill up with engine oil.

- Connect battery.

After installation of aggregate, perform axle alignment.

- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis & Serv. System (VAS 5052).

- Perform vehicle system test "Guided Fault Finding".

- End vehicle system test in such a way that possibly existing DTC entries are automatically erased.

- Generate readiness code in conjunction with a road test.

Observe safety precautions that apply to road tests.

- Perform road test.

- After that perform vehicle system test again and repair any occurring malfunctions.
