Crankshaft Assembly Overview
Crankshaft Assembly Overview
1 Bearing shells 1, 2, 4 and 5
• For bearing cap without oil groove
• For cylinder block with oil groove
• Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark)
2 Thrust washers
• For bearing cap 3
• Observe locating point
3 65 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn
• Replace
• Tighten to 65 Nm to measure radial play, do not turn further
4 Bearing cap
• Bearing cap 1: Belt pulley side
• Bearing cap 3: with cutouts for thrust washers
• Retaining tabs of bearing shells and cylinder block/bearing caps must lie above one another
5 Bearing shell 3
• For bearing cap without oil groove
• For cylinder block with oil groove
6 Needle bearing
• pulling out and driving in => [ Needle Bearings, with DSG Transmission ] Needle Bearings, With DSG Transmission.
7 Sensor wheel
• For engine speed (RPM) sensor (G28)
• Replace if damaged
• Replace sensor wheel every time bolts are loosened
• Removing and installing => [ Sensor Wheel, Removing and Installing ]
8 10 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn
• Replace
• Replace sensor wheel every time bolts are loosened
9 Fitting pin
• Check projection from crankshaft => [ Check Projection of Fitting Pin From Crankshaft ]
10 Crankshaft
• Axial play new: 0.07 to 0.17 mm
Wear limit: 0.37 mm
• measure radial clearance with Plastigage(R)
New: 0.03 to 0.08 mm
Wear limit: 0.17 mm
• Do not turn crankshaft when measuring radial play
• Crankshaft dimensions => [ Crankshaft Dimensions ] Crankshaft Dimensions.
11 Thrust washers
• For cylinder block, bearing 3
Check Projection of Fitting Pin From Crankshaft
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Depth gauge (commercially available)
- Check the projection - a - of the fitting pin with the sensor wheel - 1 - removed, using a depth gauge.
1. Sensor wheel
2. Bolt
3. Fitting pin projection - 3 - from crankshaft: - a - 2.5 to 3.0 mm
Sensor Wheel, Removing and Installing
- Always replace sensor wheel - 2 - whenever bolts are removed - 1 -.
- Replace the bolts - 1 -.
Tightening specification: 10 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn
• After tightening a second time, the attachment point of the countersunk screws of the sensor wheel are so deformed that the screw heads lie on the crankshaft - 3 - - arrows - and the sensor wheel is loose underneath the screws.
