Chain tensioner for oil pump, checking and removing and installing oil pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331

Removing oil pump
- Remove sound insulation
- Drain engine oil.

Note: Observe disposal regulations!

- Remove lower part of oil pan.

Checking chain tensioner





- Insert a screwdriver between chain and chain tensioner and carefully pry in direction of - arrow - against chain tensioner.

If no spring tension is evident or drive chain is not under tension, chain tensioner is faulty and must be replaced.

Note: To replace the chain tensioner, the front sealing flange must be removed.

Continued removal of oil pump





- Remove both brackets for oil supply pipes - arrows -.
- Pull out longer oil supply pipe from upper part of oil pan.





- Unfasten chain sprocket from oil pump - arrow - and pull it off from oil pump drive shaft.





- Remove oil pump - arrows - together with short oil supply pipe.

Installing oil pump
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- First insert short oil supply pipe with new O-ring into oil pump, then install oil pump.
- Install lower part of oil pan.
