Brake pads for HP-2 brake caliper, removing and installing,

Removing

Note: If reusing brake pads, mark location. Install in same position when installing otherwise uneven braking will occur!

- Remove wheels.





- Secure brake disc with a wheel bolt - Arrow -.
- Disconnect connector for brake pad wear indicator.





- Lift locking tab slightly on the lower part of the connector and turn 90°.
- Pull lower part of connector from holder.





- Using pliers, squeeze upper and lower springs out of their seats - arrows -.
- Swing spring to side.

Note: Before pressing piston back, draw off brake fluid from reservoir using a bleeder bottle. Otherwise fluid will overflow and cause damage if the reservoir was topped off during repair work.





- Press piston back into caliper housing.
- To do this, press floating caliper outward using a screwdriver as indicated in illustration.





- Using a screwdriver, first press outer brake pads away from floating frame and then remove.





- Push floating caliper in direction of - arrow - onto stop.
- Carefully press inner brake pads out of pistons and remove from floating caliper.

Clean floating caliper, in particular the adhesive surface for the outer brake pads.

This must be free of adhesive residue and grease.

Clean brake caliper with mineral spirits exclusively.

Installing





- Carefully install inner brake pads in pistons.





- Press floating caliper outward onto stop.
- Remove protective foil from backing plate of the outer brake pad.
- Insert brake pads in floating caliper.





- Make sure that the lugs of the backing plates are located correctly in the floating caliper - arrows -.
- Insert brake wear indicator connector into bracket on brake caliper.
- Clip in upper and lower parts of retaining spring.

Note:
^ When installing the outer brake pad, make sure that the pad does not adhere to the brake caliper housing before it is in the correct installation position.
^ Do not damage the adhesion surface.
^ After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
^ After changing brake pads check brake fluid level.
