Securing engine to assembly stand
When working on the engine, it should be secured with the Holding fixture VW540 and the Spacers VW 540/1 B to the Holding fixture VW313 of the assembly stand.

Work sequence





- Transport engine/transmission assembly to a bench with engine/transmission jack V.A.G1383A.
- Lower engine/transmission assembly until transmission is resting on bench.
- Remove securing bolts from engine to transmission.
- Press transmission off engine.

Vehicles with automatic transmission
- Secure torque converter to prevent it falling after separating engine from transmission.
- Remove nuts from torque converter.
- Remove hoses from ATF cooler.

Continued for all models





- Attach engine sling 2024A as follows and lift engine off of engine/transmission jack V.A.G1383A with workshop crane.
- belt pulley end: 3rd hole on support bar in position 2
- flywheel end: 3rd hole on support bar in position 8

CAUTION!
The hooks and locating pins must be secured with locking pins.


Note:
^ The positions marked 1 to 4 on the bar must be toward the belt pulley end.
^ The holes in the hook rails are counted up from the hook.
- Fasten engine with holding fixture VW540 and spacers VW 540/1 B to holding fixture VW313. Dowel sleeves must be removed.
