1 - Chain guard

^ Before removing, mark direction of chain rotation (installation position) with a colored marker
^ Check for wear

^ Before installing, check that both dowel sleeves are installed for centralizing

5 - 3 Nm
^ Insert with locking fluid D 000 600 A2.

6 - Cover
^ Prevents engine oil from foaming

7 - Oil return union
^ With seal

8 - 9 Nm

9 - Suction line
^ Clean strainer if soiled

10 - 8 Nm

11 - O-ring
^ Replace

12 - 15 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°)
^ Observe different bolt lengths

13 - O-ring
^ Replace

14 - Plug
^ 15 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°)

15 - Dowel sleeves

16 - Outer rotor
^ Check running surfaces for scoring
^ Mark(s) must be visible

17 - Inner rotor
^ Check running surfaces for scoring

19 - 8 Nm

20 - Chain sprocket

^ Pretension for installation

Pretensioning chain tensioner





- Pretension piston by hand - arrow -.





- Press chain rail in - direction of arrow - and lock with a 3 mm Allen key - 1 -.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Locking pin T10027





^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331

Removing
- Remove oil pan.





- Remove chain guard. If necessary, release notch through openings - arrows - with a small screwdriver.





- Loosen bolt from chain sprocket of oil pump.





- Relieve tension on chain rail with a screwdriver - arrow - and lock rail with 3 mm Allen key- 1 -.





- Remove chain sprocket of oil pump and unhook chain from drive of balancer shaft.





- Loosen bolts of balancer shaft assembly from outside to inside and remove.

Installing and adjusting oil pump with balancer shaft assembly

Condition
^ Chain tensioner pre-tensioned





- Install oil pump with balancer shaft transmission. Tighten securing bolts from inside to outside to 15 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°).

Note:
^ Observe the different bolt lengths.





- Turn crankshaft to TDC No. 1 cylinder - arrows -.





- Align mark - arrow - at chain sprocket of balancer shaft with fixture hole. Counterhold chain sprocket in this position with locking pin T10027. Place chain on chain sprocket of balancer shaft.
- Place milled side of oil pump shaft so that it is facing forward (travelling direction).
- Install chain sprocket of oil pump and tighten bolt by hand.

Note:
^ The chain sprocket of the oil pump only fits in one position. During installation, only the oil pump may be rotated.





- Remove locking pin T10027 and Allen key - 1 -.
- Secure chain sprocket of oil pump.
- Tightening torque: 20 Nm Counter support at central bolt of vibration damper

The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembly sequence.
