Removal and Replacement

Selector lever cable, removing and installing, 02E, 6 SPD. DSG A/T

Removing
- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.





- Remove intake hose -1- and disconnect connector -2- from mass air flow sensor.
- Remove bolts -3- and -4-.
- Remove complete air cleaner.





- Remove -1- locking plate.
- Remove locking element -2- and pull selector cable -3- off selector shaft lever and slide backward using bracket -4-.
- Raise vehicle.





- Loosen double clamp -A- and slide to rear.
- Remove tunnel bridge -B- located beneath exhaust system.
- Remove heat shields -C- and -D-.





- Remove 4 nuts (arrows -A-).
- Remove 2 bolts (arrows -B-).
- Carefully slide cover with protective covering forward over selector lever cable.

Note: Do not damage protective covering.





- Pry selector lever cable -1- off selector lever in direction of (arrow -A-) using a screwdriver.
- Carefully pull selector lever cable out of selector lever housing -2-.

Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence. Note the following:

- Check protective sleeve for damage, the protective sleeve can only be changed together the selector lever cable.
- Check that the protective sleeve is installed correctly. Do not install protective sleeve twisted.
- Do not grease eye and ball socket.
- Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.

- Install selector cable on selector lever, until tabs lock in pivot groove.
- Insert selector cable into selector lever housing.
- Screw cover with bonded seal hand-tight onto selector lever housing.

Note: Make sure seal is positioned correctly.

- Tighten nuts (arrows -A-).
- Tighten 2 bolts (arrows -B-).
- Insert selector lever cable protective covering into cover.





- Pass selector cable -3- through bracket -4- and press on selector shaft lever.
- Install new locking plate -1- and fuse -2-.
- Reconnect exhaust system and install tunnel bridge:
- Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Check selector mechanism.
- Install air filter housing:
- Enter radio code:
- Initialize power windows, set correct time on clock:
