Definitions
DefinitionsThese definitions refer only to the automatic transmission 09D. The definitions are not necessarily valid in general.
ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)
Hydraulic oil for automatic transmission.
ATF pump
A gear type pump driven by the torque converter.
Supplies the automatic gear change, all lubrication points and torque converter with ATF.
ATF level
"Fill height" of ATF in the transmission. The function and comfort of gear changes require conscientious observance and checking of the ATF level.
Torque converter
Transfers the engine torque to the automatic transmission and acts as a hydraulic drive-away clutch. The torque converter also includes the lock-up clutch.
Vehicle diagnostic, testing, and information system VAS5051 and vehicle diagnostic and service information system VAS 5052
Terms such as: Tester, fault reader, VAS5051 / VAS5052 refer to this device.
Further information on this subject can be found in Self Study Program no. 911203.
Sender -1- for hydraulic pressure, automatic transmission G193 and Sender -2- for hydraulic pressure, automatic transmission G194
The senders are of the same design and are located in the valve body.
They monitor the ATF-pressure behind the securing valves in valve body.
This prevents the clutches from closing, which is not controlled by the shifting program.
Guided Fault Finding
A mode of operation in the Vehicle diagnostic, testing, and information system VAS5051
Wiring
Routing of electrical wires and components in the vehicle.
M
"M" is the abbreviation for metric threads e.g. M 12 x 105: metric bolt with a diameter of 12 mm and a length of 105 mm.
Shift lock solenoid N1 10
Located in selector mechanism in vicinity of selector lever.
Prevents movement (involuntary) of the selector lever from positions "P" and "N" as long as the brake pedal is not depressed.
Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch F125
Its function is to forward the selector lever position signal to the transmission control module J217. The multi-function Transmission Range (TR) switch works in conjunction with the selector shaft and selector lever cable.
Valve body
Located on the bottom of the transmission and is enclosed in the ATF pan. Its valves regulate the hydraulic pressure and distribute it via the oil channels to the switch elements (clutches and brakes).
Tiptronic
With an additional selector gate on the right of the normal selector gate, it is now possible to manually shift up a gear by moving the selector lever to plus (+) and manually shift down a gear by moving the selector lever to negative
Selector lever park position solenoid N380
Ensures that the ignition key can only be withdrawn when park position is selected, and in addition mechanically locks the selector lever in this position.
->-button
Input field on screen of VAS5051, also called "Continue" - button.
