Draining Gear Oil and Replacing Gear Oil Filter
Draining gear oil and replacing gear oil filter:
- Replace gear oil filter
- Make sure vehicle is absolutely level, drive onto a 4-column hoist or over an inspection pit.
- Remove center sound insulation fasteners.
- Place drip tray VAG 1306 beneath transmission.
WARNING: Use safety glasses. Wear acid-resistant protective gloves.
- Remove drain plug (arrow).
- Drain gear oil.
- Replace drain plug seal (arrow).
- Screw drain plug (arrow).
Tightening torque: 45 Nm
Adding gear oil:
- Screw out inspection plug (arrow).
CAUTION!
^ The filling hose, funnel and filling adapter VAS 6262 must be clean and the gear oil is not to be mixed with other oils.
^ The engine must not to be started if there is little or no oil in the transmission following repair work or severe loss of gear oil.
^ In such cases, pre-filling is required with the engine cold and not running.
Note: Overflow pipe -C- is screwed into opening of inspection plug.
- Check whether overflow pipe -C- has been screwed into opening of inspection plug (3 Nm) and tighten to 3 Nm if necessary.
- Thread adapter VAS 6262 into opening of inspection plug (arrow)hand tight.
- Attach hose with funnel to adapter and hold funnel as high as possible over transmission.
- Pour in approximately 5 liters of gear oil using funnel into transmission.
- Remove adapter VAS 6262 from transmission.
- Screw in inspection plug (arrow).
- Move selector lever to position "P", apply parking brake.
- Press and hold brake pedal.
- Start engine and let idle.
- With brake pressed, shift through all selector lever positions "P, R, N, D, S" at idle, retaining each position for at least 3 seconds.
- Check gear oil level and top off if necessary.
