Left flanged shaft oil seal, replacing

Removing
^ Oil seals can be replaced with transmission installed.
- Remove left wheel.
- Remove middle and left part of noise insulation below engine/transmission
- Turn steering to left lock.
- Mark installation position of swivel joint bolts (arrows) on control arm.
- Remove bolts (arrows).
- Disconnect left coupling rod -1- from control arm and turn coupling rods upward.
- Unbolt drive axle from flanged shaft.
- Swing wheel bearing housing outward.
- Guide left drive axle -2- out between subframe and transmission.
- Lift drive axle and secure to suspension strut using wire.
- Remove flange shaft securing bolt.
- Remove by screwing two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft using a lever.
- Place a container beneath transmission.
- Remove flange shaft with spring.
- Pull flanged shaft oil seal out using VW771 and VW771/37.
Installing
- Drive new seal in onto limit stop, do not cant seal.
- Half fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with grease G 052 128 A1.
- Press in flange shaft.
- Secure flanged shaft with countersunk screw to 30 Nm.
- Screw left drive axle to flanged shaft.
- Install wheel.
- Check gear oil level and top off if necessary.
- Install noise insulation.
