DTC 00522 SP

DTC Code 00522, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor G62:
Short To Ground, or SP
or
Open Circuit, Short To Positive, or SP

Special Tools, Testers And Auxiliary Items:
- VAG 1598/18 Test Box adaptor
- Fluke 83 Multimeter or equivalent
- VW 1594 Adaptor kit
- Wiring diagram

Work Sequence:
Display will appear as shown:

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX


- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06 "End data transfer"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Switch OFF ignition





- Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature sensor -1- harness connector





- Connect VAG 1598/18 Test Box adaptor to ECM wiring harness





- Check wiring for open circuit between Test Box adaptor and 4-pin harness connector using wiring diagram:
Terminal 1 + socket 33
Terminal 3 + socket 14
Wire resistance: 1.5 ohm maximum

If no malfunction detected:
- Allow engine to cool





- Measure sensor resistance by connecting multimeter between terminals 1 + 3 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adaptor kit

- Start engine and let run at idle
Resistance must decrease uniformly as engine warms up

NOTE: If problems occur at certain temperature ranges and the resistance values do not drop smoothly then the temperature signal is intermittent and the sensor must be replaced.

- Erase DTC memory
Unplugging the ECT sensor is registered as a malfunction
