DTC code 00313:Catalyst, Questionable Signal
Special Tools, Testers And Auxiliary Items:
- VAG 1598/18 Test Box adaptor
- Fluke 83 Multimeter or equivalent
- VW 1594 Adaptor kit
- Wiring diagram
Work Sequence:
Display will appear as shown:
Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06 "End data transfer"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Switch OFF ignition
- Inspect Additional fuel metering device wiring for proper connection or possible damage
- Disconnect Metering Pump V54 harness connector -1-
- Measure resistance between pump terminals:
Specification: 8 to 12 ohm
If specified resistance not obtained:
- Replace Metering Pump V54
If specified resistance obtained:
- Connect VAG 1598/18 Test Box adaptor to ECM wiring harness connector -1-
- Inspect wiring for open circuit between Test Box adaptor and harness connector using wiring diagram
Terminal 1 + socket 27
Terminal 2 + socket 45
Wire resistance: 1.5 ohm maximum
- Check for shorting between wires
Specification: infinite ohm
If no malfunction in fuel metering device found:
- Allow catalyst to cool for at least 1 hour
- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select address word 01 "Engine electronics"
Display will appear as shown:

- Press 0 and 8 buttons to select Function 08 "Read measuring value block"
- Press Q button to enter input
Display will appear as shown:
Read measuring value block HELP
Input display group number XX
- Press 1 and 7 buttons to select "display group 17"
- Press Q button to enter input
Display will appear as shown:
Read measuring value block 17 -->
1.520V 1.520V 0000000 -1
- Compare voltage figures for both catalyst temperature sensors in display zones 1 (sensor 1) and 2 (sensor 2)
Voltage figures must be the same tolerance
Specification: ±0.060 Volts
- Check adaption value in display zone 4
Specification: -10 to +10
If temperature values not equal or adaption value outside tolerance
- Check both temperature sensor resistance values as described in following DTC codes: SEE 00310 and 00312
If specified resistance obtained:
- Replace Catalyst
