DTC 00310

DTC Code 00310 Temperature Sensor I -G20- (for Catalyst):
Open circuit, Short to positive or Short to ground

Special Tools, Testers And Auxiliary Items:
- VAG 1598/18 Test Box adaptor
- Fluke 83 Multimeter or equivalent
- VW 1594 Adaptor kit
- Wiring diagram

Testing Procedure:
Display will appear as shown:

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX


- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06 "End data transfer"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Switch OFF ignition





- Unplug connector for catalyst -1- temperature sensor
- Connect multimeter between sensor terminals 1 + 2 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adaptor kit





- Measure sensor resistance
specification: see graph

Example:
- 25°C equates to a resistance of 212 to 228 ohm

If specified resistance not attained:
- Replace temperature sensors 1 and 2





If specified resistance obtained:
- Connect VAG 1598/18 adaptor to ECM wiring harness





- Inspect wiring between adaptor and connector for open circuit using wiring diagram:
Terminal 1 + socket 10
Terminal 2 + socket 33
Wire resistance: 1.5 ohm maximum

- Check for shorts between wires
specification: infinite ohm

If no malfunctions detected:
- Replace Engine Control Module J248
