Production

The ignition/starter switch has been revised for m.y. 1996 Golf, GTI and Jetta models, and for Cabrio models starting with Mexico production.

The only difference from the previous switch is in the way that it supplies power to the radio.

Previous version

^ With the key inserted in the ignition switch (position -1-) the "S" contact is closed.

^ Radio will play.

New version





^ With the key inserted in the ignition switch (position -1-) the "S" contact remains open.

^ With the key turned to position -2-, the "S" contact is closed, and remains closed if the key is returned to position -1-.

^ Radio will play

^ When the key is removed, the "S" contact is open and the radio will not play.
