Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory - Display

^ After connecting the VAG 1551 tester the following operating modes appear alternately:

^ 1 Rapid data transfer

and

^ 2 Blink code output

Note: Press the PRINT button for a complete printout of malfunctions.

1. Select operating mode 1, Rapid data transfer

2. Switch ignition ON

^ Read display:

Rapid data transfer HELP
02-Input address word XX

3. Press keys 0 and 2 (this selects program 02 for "transmission electronics")

^ Read display:

Rapid data transfer Q
02-Transmission electronics

4. Press Q key to enter input

^ Read display showing transmission control module identification

5. Establish E-prom level of Digimat TCM installed in vehicle by noting four-digit number following word "Digimat".

6. Press --> key

^ Display should read:

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX

^ If display appears as shown here:

TCM does not respond! HELP

Press HELP key to print out a list of possible malfunctions (after eliminating cause, input 02 address word again)

^ If TCM does not respond! appears again:

Check for open circuits on data link connector
See DTC chart under code 65535 - "TCM malfunctioning"

7. Press 0 and 2 key (this selects program 02 for checking DTC memory)

^ Read display:

Rapid data transfer Q
02-Check DTC memory

8. Press Q key to enter input

^ Read display showing number of malfunctions

2 DTC's recognized!

No DTC's recognized!
(Example Only)


^ The stored DTC's are indicated and pointed out one after another.

9. After last DTC has been displayed, press --> key

10. Eliminate malfunctions using DTC charts
